Ali Akbar Velayati was born in Rostamabad District of Shemiran in northern Tehran in 1945.he was the only son and he had good relations with parents. He completed his studies in Tehran schools and started his political campaign in 1961.Velayati was 16 when he knew Imam Khomeini. It came in the wake of the death of Ayatollah Boroujerdi. Imam Khomeini was hi spiritual leader. Velayati handed out Imam's statement against a bill for state and provincial associations. Since 1963 he has followed imam's line and, in cooperation with the Combatant Clerics Association, proceeded until the victory of our Islamic Revolution. Velayati entered the University of Tehran in 1964, started to study in the Faculty of Medicine and was graduated in 1971. In 1974, he succeeded in obtaining specialist degree in pediatrics from the Children Medical Center, University of Tehran. Dr. Velayati was elected a member of the Board of Directors of the Islamic Association of Doctors in 1978, and, in cooperation with clerics and committed doctors, played a major role in establishing relief and treatment centers. He also took steps to establish links between a secret Islamic network in the army and the Combatant Clerics. He was accepted as a member of the Health Faculty in 1974. He became a member of the Islamic Republic Party in 1979, and was Deputy Minister of Health in 1979 and 1980. Velayati was elected a deputy of the Islamic Consultative Assembly by people of Tehran in 1980. He has written some books about medical and social affairs. Former foreign minister Ali Akbar Velayati is running for president. Velayati, now a top aide to supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, is supported by the conservatives. He is a pediatric and teaches at universities. Born in 1945, Velayati is member of five councils. He was foreign minister for 16 years.
